I am thoroughly enjoying having a little bit more time to read now that our schoolwork and most extracurricular activities have wound down for the summer! I've been catching up on book reviews and also reading a few things that I've had waiting for quite awhile. No school related books for the moment.
Recently finished
I recently read two books on prayer that have had a very positive impact on my prayer life:
- Praying Backwards: Transform Your Prayer Life by Beginning in Jesus' Name
by Bryan Chapell (read my review here)
- Creative Prayer: Speaking the Language of God's Heart
by Chris Tiegreen (read my review here)
I highly recommend them both!
I'm also excited about two more books I just finished. I'm working on reviews to post here on my blog for both of these, so keep an eye out!
- Family Driven Faith: Doing What It Takes to Raise Sons and Daughters Who Walk with God
by Voddie Bauchum Jr. (Wow! This was a fantastic book! Based on Deuteronomy 6, it walks through our responsibility to disciple our children and gives plenty of encouragement and tools to do so.)
- Joy: A Godly Woman's Adornment
by Lydia Brownback (I found this biblically sound, encouraging, and easy to use. I'm looking forward to checking out the other titles in the series, On-the-Go Devotionals.)
Ongoing
Our entire family is thoroughly enjoying the two books we're reading together for family devotions right now, both by Starr Meade. I'm planning to do a blog review of both titles in the near future.
Coming up
I have several more books to review in the next month, and a few more still on my want-to-read shelf. The review book that I'm most excited about is Surprised by Grace: God's Relentless Pursuit of Rebels
by Tullian Tchividjian. Pastor Tullian has a true gift for expressing biblical truth! Did I mention that he's Billy Graham's grandson? I'm thrilled that Crossway has offered me the opportunity to review this one! Check out the trailer:

I've also been inspired to reread the Anne of Green Gables series, one of my childhood favorites! I watched the movies with the kids recently and my oldest daughter is in the middle of reading them. I'm hoping to get started on them in the next week or two.
So, I've got quite a list for the next few weeks!
I just recently switched from Visual Bookshelf to Goodreads. If you use them, I'd love to connect with you there!
I've also written several other reviews recently. If you're interested, you can find them here.

That "praying backwards" book sounds interesting. Ah for my poor overloaded TBR list!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your summer reading!
I really enjoyed Family Driven Faith.
ReplyDeletePraying Backwards sounds very interesting. I'll have to keep my eye out for it.
@Beth...it was a great read, wasn't it?
ReplyDelete"Praying Backwards" was a great book, IMO! Very thorough, biblically sounds, and encouraging!
You have a lot you've read and are planning to take up! I'm interested in the book by Billy Graham's grandson - interesting that the Christian legacy continues there. I love the Anne books; you're in for a treat :) I love that you read some books at the same time as your kids - I enjoy doing that as well!
