Jane Austen 2011: Another Reading Challenge!

Okay, seriously. How could I resist a Jane Austen challenge, especially one that includes books AND movies?! So, in addition to being a mentor for the Bible in 90 Days Spring 2011 Challenge and participating in the L.M. Montgomery Reading Challenge, I'm joining Amy's Jane Austen 2011 Challenge at A Faithful Journey.

The challenge is a year long, with check-ins on the second Friday of each month. Bloggers can link up, non-bloggers can update in the comments. Books authored OR inspired by Jane Austen as well as any movies based on the books count for the challenge. A year of Jane...how fun!! Not to mention, Amy's offering some really great prizes for bloggers who officially sign up.

Since we have an entire year, I'd like to try to read all six Jane Austen titles, plus a couple of "Inspired by  Jane" titles. I'm undecided on those...any suggestions from any of you who've read any? Amy provided a good starting list.

So, my list is:
It's been years since I've read any of these, and I've never read Mansfield Park, Persuasion, OR Northanger Abbey. I'll probably start around the end of January, when the L.M. Montgomery Challenge wraps up.

This is going to be so fun!

9 thoughtful notes:

  1. Glad you're joining in on the Jane Austen Challenge! I was thinking about participating in the Bible in 90 Days challenge that goes on in the summer, but it's really hard to find the time to read it in that short amount of time. I just read it through every year in a different way. In 2009 I read it through cover to cover, in 2010 I did the Old Testament/New Testament plan (albeit sporadically), and this year I'm reading it chronologically.

    Have fun with your challenges!

  2. I signed up! :)

    I'll do all of Jane's books. I'm not sure if I'll do any of the "inspired by Jane" books or not. They would have to be REALLY good to tempt me! LOL.

    And I will gladly watch multiple versions of the movies of each book as well. :)

  5. So glad to see a fellow B90Days Mentor joining in on the challenge! I am hoping it is fun for all involved! Thank you for this nice write-up explaining the challenge!

    I have never read any of the "inspired by" novels, but am planning on reading the two by Beth Pattillo. {a 3rd one comes out in April based on Sense and Sensibility so I will most likely read that one as well! :)}

    Happy Reading!
